Daniel “Mickey” Gilyard, the son of the late Henry Gilyard and Mary (West) Gilyard was born on January 31, 1938 in Hoboken, NJ and transitioned to his heavenly home on February 9, 2026 at Bayonne Medical Hospital in Bayonne, NJ.
Mickey grew up and attended school in Hoboken, NJ. Affectionately know as
“Uncle Mickey” to all throughout the community, he was a true family man. There wasn’t much he wouldn’t do for his children, his sisters, or anyone blessed enough to know him.
He never met a dance floor he didn’t like. Months ago he was still out dancing us all and if music was playing, there was a good chance it was a Frank Sinatra song with him singing as if he was headlining the show.
Mickey met and married the love of his life Lois in Hoboken NJ. Although Lois passed on in 1980, he never stopped speaking about the love he held for his Dear wife.
Mickey was a dedicated employee of the Hoboken Department of Public Works, where he faithfully served for over 40 years before retiring. After retirement, he used his free time playing bingo, going to Atlantic City and helping care for his grand children.
Mickey is preceded by his parents, Henry and Mary Gilyard, his beloved wife Lois Gilyard, Sisters; Sandra, Alice, June, Mary, Marlene, and Gracie, Brothers;
Leroy, William, Robert, Sammy and grand daughter Felicia McKenzie.
Mickey leaves to cherish his precious memories his sons; Jimmy, Daniel Jr. (the late Sandra), Eric (Johanna), Terry, (Monique) and he shared a son Sammy with the late Francine, his daughters; Michele and Dina, grandchildren; Lamisha, Tankeisha, Jaimie, Dolores, Antonia, Lois Azlin, Terence Jr., Jerica, Jourdan, Ayden, Eohnna, Eriana, Jeniah, Maxwell, Mia, Jayden, Samuel Jr., Daniel III, Sebastien, Elijah and Isaiah, his Dear sister; Margie “Minnie” and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended relatives.
I fought a good fight; I have run the race; and now I have gone to a better place called Heaven.
