BELOVED KEVIN LAMONT WRIGHT a.k.a KEV”. Formerly of Newark, NJ and a lifelong resident of Jersey City, NJ.  Departed this earthly life and entered eternal life on February 22, 2020.  On September 13, 1964, God Blessed Walter & Ethel (Cookie) Wright with a very handsome bundle of joy their pride and joy one and only baby boy Kevin. Wow, (3) is a charm their third child. This was the happiest day of their lives.  


Kev was highly educated in the Jersey City School System he loved school, music, dancing ,and playing basketball,  exploring and was always curious about learning different things (Curious Kev).  He graduated from P.S. #24 and Lincoln High Schools.  His education extended to culinary art school where he mastered the art of cooking.  His performance and skills made him one of the best chef’s on this planet.

Kev was an extremely fine, proud, loving, generous, wonderful, amazing, savvy, debonair, hilarious 55 year old man and didn’t look his age at all. His love for people, places and things were astonishing. As a young adult, Kev was the man, his passion was his sharp wardrobe, family, friends, partying (Best Mixologist DJ Kevy Kev) he was adored by everyone. Kev became a loving, devoted, committed, dedicated hard-working father at a very early age. His love and devotion for his kids was priceless and unconditional; Kevin enjoyed taking them to school, helping them with their homework, playing games, dancing, walking, bowling,amusement parks, skating, movies, travelling, being a chaperone for the Boys and Girls Scout and just being an old-fashioned dad.  Kev zest for life was magical.  His charm, charisma, and smile were infectious.  Kev enjoyed vigorously walking, his bow-legs carried him step by step, mile after mile walking non-stop; never needing a driver’s license because his feet was his wheels (Walk it out, Kev) while socializing, meeting new friends and cherishing his old friends.  

Mr. Wright worked diligently for several years as a chef for Eataly Flatiron on 5th Ave in Manhattan, New York; cooking was his passion and grits was his favorite.

While walking to the bus stop he took his last breath on February 22, 2020.

He is preceded in death by his parents Walter & Ethel (Cookie) Wright, son TySaun Cousar.  Cherished brother of Dorene Wright   (Jersey City, NJ), Sheila Holliday (Bayonne, NJ), brother-in-laws, Kevin Cobbs (Jersey City, NJ), Benjamin Holliday (Bayonne,NJ). Surviving are his devoted children son Deon Cousar (Charlotte, NC), daughters Sakina Ponder (Marquis) (Jersey City, NJ), Kevona Wright (Bronx, NY).  Loving grandchildren TyQuse Currence  (Charlotte, NC), Sania & Sincere Badger  (Jersey City, NJ).   Also, survived by a host of loving aunts Hassie Mae Hutson  (Hillside, NJ), Jerry Wright  (Jersey City, NJ), uncles Jimmy Hutson  (Hillside, NJ), Samuel Foster  (Rockhill, SC) nieces Ty-Taneshia Jackson (Benjamin) (Hillside, NJ), Aneesa Holliday-Dingle (Shamel) (Bayonne, NJ), Legacy White  (Elizabeth, NJ), Nyla Holliday (Jersey City, NJ) nephews JohnnyC White, II (Sharon) (Elizabeth, NJ), Benjamin Holliday, II (Bayonne, NJ) cousins, and friends.  

Kev will truly be missed.  We will cherish memories of his humor and his sarcastic sly remarks in our hearts for eternity.  

In addition, his grandchildren will forever and a day cherish the times on his days off that he will come and enjoy their favorite meal together seafood delightand for snack dill pickles.
