Heartfelt Condolences to Family, Friends, Associates & Co-Workers of Brother Clarence E. Hilliard. Clarence and I bacame immediate neighbors back in 1973. We, as young Brothers with "Aspirations of Greatness" shared in experiences of growth and awareness as Freshman at Jersey City State College. We both became part of WJCS, the college Radio Station. We both would find ourselves spending time in THE BCS ROOM (Black Freedom Society). Most memorable and extraordinary, we both wound up in Chuck Davis African Dance Class early on at Jersey City State College. However, it was only by the suggestion and encouragement of Clarence (then known as Onaje) that I joined in "The Dance Class" - Without a doubt, becoming part of Chuck Davis African Dance Class (only because of Clarence's strong suggestion & instance) was in fact a highlight of my experience at JCSC. Chuck Davis basically "took me under his wing" even though I was not good in African Dance. Chuck insisted that I come along wherever the Dance Troupe was performing. I would sit next to Chuck, as he would share words of wisdom and remind me how to "Sit-Up-Straight" - I share this very personal story at this time not to focus on me or Chuck Davis, but to focus on Brother Clarence and how he contributed (without ever knowing) to my life in a most extraordinary and positive way. For without his encouragement, and that "Big Smile" of his as he pointed out to me that... "There are a lots of Beautiful Honey's in The Class", I would never have stepped foot in a Dance Class as "it wasn't my thing". Years later, both Clarence and I were accepted into the Jersey City Police Academy along with several other of our Peers. However, again it was though motivation of another local Brother by the name of Glenn Cunningham who motivated many young Brothers in Jersey City to consider joining "Jersey City's Finest" - I conclude in saying, and pointing out how important it is for our young people and even older to have folk like Clarence Hilliard, Glenn Cunningham, Robert "Kool" Bell & Jones Family along with Keith Davis Family, and many others, to reach-out and give guidance, encouragement and a helping hand to those around us (no matter what age). Thank you Brother Clarence, you made an absolute difference in my life. Rest Easy, Job well done. - Brother Billy Prest, of Jersey City, New Jersey.
